FAQ’s
Sri Lanka is a year-round destination. The best time is December–April for south and west coasts, and May–September for north and east regions.
With effect from 15 October 2025, all travelers visiting Sri Lanka for short-stay purposes (tourism or business) are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) via the official website www.eta.gov.lk.
1. As per reciprocal/bilateral arrangements, passport holders of Seychelles, Maldives and Singapore shall be exempted from ETA fees for tourism purposes.
2. Passport holders of the People’s Republic of China, India, Russia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan will also be eligible to obtain the ETA free of charge for tourism purposes, as per existing regulations.
3. The stipulated fee will be applicable to passport holders from all other countries and to those applying ETA under business category.
** A visa fee will be applicable for all Business Visa applicants from all countries.
There are many ways to travel in Sri Lanka—use PickMe or Uber, or Taxi Services or enjoy scenic trains, long-distance buses, and convenient domestic air taxis.
Sri Lanka’s currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). Carry some cash for small purchases, though credit and debit cards are widely accepted Islandwide.
Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples / religious sites: shoulders and knees should be covered, remove shoes, hats, and sometimes socks.
Sri Lanka’s best beaches include Mirissa, Unawatuna, Hiriketiya, Bentota, Arugam Bay, Nilaveli, and Pasikuda—ideal for surfing, swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing, depending on season.
Sri Lanka uses 230V, 50Hz electricity. The main plug types are Type D (three round pins) and Type G (UK-style three rectangular pins). An adapter is recommended.
